Tanzanian safari

Our friend and colleague, "M", was on a work trip in Tanzania during his birthday this year. Upon his return, it seemed only appropriate to celebrate with a cake loosely modeled after one of the more common residents of the Serengeti. Eat zebra cake, not bush meat!

(Cake and decorations by Elanor; white/chocolate marble cake with vanilla buttercream and fondant icing.)

  4. Wow, that is a fantastic cake! Is it based on a marble cake, with the design personalised obviously?!

  5. @Safari Tanzania: Somehow I missed your comment when you posted it months ago. So sorry. Very glad you liked the zebra cake, though! Yes, it involves the same chocolate and vanilla/white cake batters that you would use for a marble cake. It simply involves a different method of pouring the batters into the pan - you can find instructions and YouTube videos for the pouring technique by searching online for "zebra cake recipe". Combine that interior with a fondant zebra stripe exterior and voila, you have zebra in and out! This cake has been so popular I'm starting to plan other inside/outside animal cakes. Stay tuned, and thanks for following the blog!
